Lent was a time of preparation for Baptism in the early church. Baptismal candidates were required to fast the 40 days before Easter, at which time they were baptized into the Christian faith.

There are actually 46 days in the Season of Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Eve. The six Sundays in Lent are not counted as part of Lent, because every Sunday is a celebration of the resurrection. Therefore, the season is called the "Forty days of Lent."
Ash Wednesday begins our journey into this season. The
mid-week services will focus upon the theme, “The Cross” The messages during these services will be our focal point.

O Master, let me walk with you in lowly paths of service true; tell me your secret; help me bear the strain of toil, the fret of care. Help me the slow of heart to move by some clear, winning word of love. Teach me the wayward feet to stay, and guide them in the homeward way.
